A Case Study Demonstrating Improved Patient Outcomes Using Data From The NJR At The South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre
Description
In this presentation delivered by VIPUL PATEL, the focus is on the surgical hub known as SWLEOC, established in 2004 in Southwest London to address lengthy waiting lists for orthopedic surgeries. SWLEOC is a collaborative effort among four local NHS trusts, featuring six theatres and 56 beds. The establishment has seen significant activity, handling over 6,000 procedures in the last financial year, including 3,000 arthroplasties, making it the largest contributor to the NJR registry with over 45,000 entries. The presentation discusses the integration of NJR data to enhance patient outcomes and the use of biannual "GIRFT away days" to review data and engage in open discussions among consultants. It emphasizes the importance of mentorship and shared learning, leveraging internal databases to monitor surgical outcomes and address potential outliers proactively. Key findings include the exploration of revision rates associated with different types of hip replacements in older patients and sustained improvements in practice following collective consultations among surgeons. The outcome is marked by enhanced performance metrics and a commitment to continuous improvement in surgical practices.
