Efficacy of the Non-Arthroplasty Hip Registry (NAHR)
Description
The presentation by Maria Dadabhoy focuses on her research as a junior Orthopedic Research fellow at St George's Hospital, particularly regarding the non-arthroplasty hip procedures registry. Maria discusses the purposes of such registries, which include improving treatment outcomes, detecting prone procedures or devices, and identifying prognostic factors. She provides background on the National Joint Registry, noting its poor initial uptake which improved after data entry became mandatory. Maria highlights findings from audits showing high uptake of arthroplasty data but addresses lower participation in non-arthroplasty data collection. She details a Freedom of Information request sent to NHS trusts to evaluate the number of non-arthroplasty procedures performed, revealing low data input into the registry by a small number of surgeons. Challenges were identified, including difficulties with coding and the impact of private healthcare. She concludes with recommendations on enhancing data collection and learning from other registries to improve the current situation.
