Mosaicplasty - OATS Procedure
Description
In this instructional video, Sharath KR demonstrates the mosaicplasty or OATS (Osteochondral Autograft Transfer System) surgical procedure on a 32-year-old patient with a full thickness cartilage defect in the medial femoral condyle. Starting with a brief overview, Sharath explains that he is also performing an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction along with lateral extra-articular tenodesis concurrent with the OATS procedure. He meticulously outlines the steps, from measuring the cartilage defect and harvesting donor cartilage from the suprapatellar area to the surgical techniques involving precise tapping and placement of the graft.
The video details how the defect area is prepared, including the careful removal of damaged cartilage and the creation of a hollow space to accommodate the donor cartilage. The harvested graft, measuring 8mm in diameter and 15mm in length, is shown being placed into the defect with the aid of an arthroscopic camera, ensuring proper alignment and seating within the prepared area. Sharath emphasizes the importance of achieving primary compression to facilitate integration of the bone graft.
After successfully completing the cartilage replacement, he shows the visual transformations and concludes by reaffirming the successful implementation of both the OATS and ACL reconstruction procedures. The video ends with an encouragement to subscribe for more informative content, highlighting the educational value of the procedure shown.
