Trigger Finger Release
Description
This video provides a detailed demonstration of a surgical procedure for trigger finger release, a condition characterized by pain and stiffness at the base of the finger, where the finger may catch or trigger when trying to move it. The video begins with an introduction to the condition, explaining how the tendons that flex the finger can become irritated, leading to thickening and difficulty in moving through the pulley beneath which these tendons slide.
The surgical procedure is performed under local anesthesia with sedation, allowing the patient to remain awake but relaxed. Dr. Badia makes a small incision in the palm along a natural crease to minimize scarring, then carefully divides the pulley to widen the tunnel, enabling smoother tendon movement. After ensuring the tendons glide freely, the small incision is closed with absorbable sutures, and a light bandage is applied.
Post-surgery, patients are encouraged to start using their hand immediately with light activities, while heavy lifting is advised against for a few days. The video concludes with a reminder to seek more information on the procedure or related topics through Dr. Badia's website.
