Nonmodular Tapered Fluted Titanium Stems Perform Reliably at Medium Term in Revision THR

Description

Michael Nitikman presents findings on the use of nonmodular tapered fluted titanium stems in medium-term revision total hip replacements. The study specifically evaluates the Wagner SL stem, which has shown promising results in early outcomes with low rates of subsidence, aseptic loosening, and notable improvements in pain and function scores. Following a retrospective cohort study conducted on patients who had undergone femoral revision with the Wagner SL stem, the results indicate that the stem offers good survivorship—90% at five years and 95.3% specifically for the femoral component at a mean follow-up of 7.2 years. The study indicates the Wagner SL stem is reliable, presenting minimal complications such as stress shielding and aseptic loosening. Limitations include the retrospective nature of the study and follow-up challenges but suggest a need for future long-term assessments and prospective studies.
