Basic Sciences - Salenius and Vankka Graph
Description
The video introduces a lesson on the Salenius and Vankka Graph, focusing on the development of the tibiofemoral angle in children, as published in the American JBJS in 1975. The study involved 1480 clinical or X-ray assessments across two centers in Helsinki, examining normal children. The Salenius and Vankka Graph plots age (X-axis) against varus and valgus angles (Y-axis). It notes that at birth, children typically have a varus angle of 15 degrees, which trends towards neutrality by the age of two. Maximum valgus of 10 degrees is observed around age three, followed by a return to a normal valgus of 5 to 7 degrees by ages six or seven. This valgus angle persists into adulthood.
