A Proposed Role for Tactile Joint Afferents in Knee Pathology

Description

In this lecture presented by Ryan Jones from Cardiff University, he introduces his research proposal focusing on the role of tactile joint afferents in knee pathology. Jones outlines the complex neuroanatomy of the knee, highlighting three key types of sensory afferents: proprioceptors located in the quadriceps, pain-sensitive nociceptors mainly found in ligaments, and the specific tactile afferents he studies, situated in the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), menisci, and other fibrous structures. He emphasizes the significance of these receptors in proprioceptive sensation and muscle inhibition during knee injuries, particularly in conditions like ACL tears.
