BOSTAA Upper Limb Instability in the Sportsperson: Introduction
Description
In this virtual session led by Professor Fares Haddad, a prominent figure in Orthopedics and Sports Surgery at UCL and UCLH, attendees are welcomed warmly and introduced to a compelling agenda focused on upper-limb instability in athletes. Professor Haddad expresses gratitude towards key contributors to the program, acknowledging the hard work of his colleagues Fazal Ali and Nick Nicolau in organizing the event.
The session is structured into two parts, beginning with presentations from distinguished experts, including Carlos Cobiella who discusses management for bony deficiencies related to glenohumeral instability, and Len Funk who addresses anterior shoulder instability in younger patients. The session proceeds with insights from Professor van Riet on elbow instability in throwing athletes, reflecting a commitment to leveraging virtual platforms to facilitate global expert participation.
The second half of the session covers relevant topics moving further down the arm, featuring Anmar Al-shawi on wrist mechanics and Meg Birks on thumb ligament injuries, concluding with an imaging lecture from Professor Sayed Ali. Professor Haddad highlights the importance of learning in this unique format, urging collaboration and support for BOSTAA. The co-chairing of the first half is handled by Jo Banks, who introduces Carlos Cobiella, emphasizing his extensive qualifications and contributions to the field. This program promises to be both educational and engaging, catering to the needs of professionals in orthopedic sports medicine.
