Capturing Positive Change: The Importance of Collaborative Working
Description
In a recent presentation, Chris Moran emphasized the uniqueness of their community-driven project, which differs from traditional top-down initiatives. The focus is on building from the ground up, engaging patients at every level. Andy Bennett took the stage, initially facing technical difficulties with his mute button. He highlighted the overarching vision of promoting lifelong musculoskeletal (MSK) health for all communities and the importance of social value in healthcare.
The project aimed to engage every individual in the process, ensuring that they feel ownership of the initiative. Bennett explained the collaborative strategy that was formed during the COVID-19 pandemic to address healthcare needs, like supporting surge capacity and managing urgent care.
A cross-stakeholder group was rapidly established to foster collaboration among various professionals and organizations, including the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and Versus Arthritis. This group was crucial in creating a cohesive response to the challenges posed by COVID-19, focusing on how MSK services span across primary, community, and secondary care.
Bennett stressed the need for including individuals with lived experiences to provide valuable input on healthcare ideas that resonate with all stakeholders involved. He recognized the contributions of various charity representatives and organizations, information provided by Lived Experience teams from NHS England, and the collaborative feedback that ensured practical applicability of clinician ideas.
The presentation anticipates further elaboration from Christina Serrao, who has led the engagement of lived experience in the project's development.
