Cumberlege - The Benefit of Registries to Patients

Description

In this presentation led by Robin Brittain, a patient representative for the National Joint Registry, key findings of the Cumberlege review are discussed. The review focuses on how the healthcare system in England addresses reports of adverse effects associated with medicines and medical devices, following numerous patient complaints and advocacy campaigns. The review highlights three specific interventions: hormone pregnancy tests, sodium valproate used during pregnancy, and pelvic mesh implants, all linked by a common theme of patients not receiving necessary risk information to make informed treatment choices. The review underscores the importance of amplifying patient voices, experiences, and perspectives in developing a responsive healthcare system that prioritizes patient safety and timely interventions.
