Development of a Finite Element Model of Ankle Injury and Stability
Description
In this presentation, Hao Chen discusses the development of a finite element (FE) model focusing on ankle injury and stability. The project aims to address the lack of existing studies in this area by creating an accessible, open-source model for researchers and surgeons. The preliminary model is built using female left ankle scan datasets obtained from the Visible Human Project. Hao employs Autodesk for CAD generation and selects FEBio FE software for simulations. The modeling involves various ankle bones and ligaments, which are represented using spring elements and tetrahedral meshing. The results show that the model validations align closely with existing literature, although some discrepancies in stress measurements necessitate further refinement. Throughout the presentation, Hao highlights the project's limitations, including time constraints and computing power, while expressing optimism about its potential contributions to understanding ankle injuries.
