Diabetic Foot Infection

Description

Mr Donatas Chlebinskas gives his expert insights into how the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines emphasize the importance of surgical debridement in managing diabetic foot infections, particularly when there are indications of deep or necrotic tissue involvement and accompanying systemic signs. Initial assessment typically involves plain radiographs to check for osteomyelitis. In cases where the findings are unclear, MRI may be utilized, especially if systemic signs are mild and allow for further investigation, assisting in detailed surgical planning. However, it is crucial that the debridement process is not postponed if urgent intervention is required based on clinical symptoms.
