Evaluation of Practice Patellofemoral Instability Collaborative

Description

This VTT outlines a presentation by Morgan Bailey, a registrar on Wessex and former BASK research fellow for 2020. The focus of the presentation is on a collaborative project aimed at evaluating surgical management practices for patellofemoral instability (PFI) in the UK, highlighting a lack of standardization in surgical approaches and the limited evidence base available to guide surgeons. Morgan explains the creation of the BASK trainee collaborative, involving a national audit that analyzed surgeries performed from 2015 to 2019. Key findings reveal significant variations in surgical interventions such as medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction and trochleoplasties across hospitals. The data indicates that while isolated lateral releases are still commonly performed, there is a call for further research and adherence to newly established guidelines to improve patient management.
