Hallux Dislocations
Description
Mr Donatas Chlebinskas gives his expert insights and discusses hallux dislocations, specifically referring to dislocations of the first metatarsophalangeal joint. Mr Chlebinskas explains that these dislocations are classified into two categories by the Jahss classification system, depending on the condition of the sesamoid complex. Type I refers to irreducible dorsal dislocation, where both the hallux and an intact sesamoid mass are dislocated dorsally, often necessitating surgical intervention. In contrast, Type II describes a reducible dorsal dislocation, typically resulting from a disrupted sesamoid complex, which can manifest as either a split in the intersesamoid ligament (Type IIA) or a fracture of one of the sesamoids (Type IIB). This classification aids in predicting the success of closed reduction treatments.
