Jones Fracture: Squeeze Test
Description
Mr Donatas Chlebinskas gives his expert insights and discusses the squeeze test used to assess a suspected Jones fracture. The squeeze test involves gently compressing the midfoot or forefoot to elicit pain at the base of the fifth metatarsal, which helps differentiate this type of fracture from ankle sprains, midfoot injuries, and soft tissue contusions. It may be performed alongside other physical examination techniques such as palpation and resisted eversion. Notably, unlike the syndesmosis squeeze test, this test specifically aims to provoke localized pain.
