Lateral Ankle Instability
Description
Mr Donatas Chlebinskas gives his expert insights and discusses the prevalence and treatment of chronic lateral ankle instability and associated osteochondral lesions. He highlights that approximately 33% of patients with chronic lateral ankle instability also have co-existing osteochondral lesions, primarily located on the medial talar dome. Mr Chlebinskas emphasizes arthroscopic techniques for unstable cartilage removal combined with bone marrow stimulation methods like microfracturing or drilling, showing a high success rate of 85% to 100% in restoring functionality and encouraging return to physical activity. He also recommends that ligament repair should be conducted concurrently to reduce the likelihood of recurrence and long-term degeneration.
