Meniscal Repair - Outside-In

Description

In this presentation, Rainer Siebold discusses the technique of outside-in repair of the meniscus, aiming to provide clarity for medical professionals at the meeting. The presentation begins with an overview of a significant case involving a large meniscal tear in a younger patient, aged approximately 35-40.

Siebold elaborates on his preferred method of using spinal needles to effectuate the repair, detailing the use of a 2-0 FiberWire and a loop suture for a successful meniscus repair. He explains the procedural steps of introducing the needles and retrieving the suture with precision, emphasizing the importance of thorough techniques for optimal outcomes.

Siebold also discusses the application of this method in different areas of the meniscus, particularly how he adjusts his technique for the posterior horn using all-inside devices. To ensure comprehensive stability, he recommends placing sutures on both the upper and lower sides of the meniscus to prevent gaps during the tightening process.

He concludes with insights on rehabilitation protocols following the repair, highlighting a cautious approach with partial weight-bearing for about two to three weeks. Siebold warns of the potential risks associated with the ramos infrapatellars and the saphenous nerve, underlining the need for careful suture management to avoid patient discomfort.

Throughout the talk, he reflects on his experiences with the technique, encouraging peers to adopt it due to its effectiveness and positive results. The presentation ends with positive wishes for the meeting, leaving attendees with an endorsement of the technique's benefits.
