Rheumatoid Ankle Arthritis

Description

Mr Donatas Chlebinskas gives his expert insights and outlines key characteristics of two types of arthritis: rheumatoid arthritis and degenerative ankle arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis is described as usually bilateral and symmetric, characterized by diffuse pain, swelling, and significant morning stiffness. Common signs include deformity leading to valgus instability, uniform joint space loss visible on radiographs, and the presence of erosions and periarticular osteopenia. In contrast, degenerative ankle arthritis is highlighted as typically unilateral, presenting with activity-related localized pain and deformities that may worsen after malunion or chronic instability. Radiographic findings for this condition include asymmetric joint space loss, joint narrowing, osteophytes, and subchondral sclerosis.
