Superficial Peroneal Retinaculum Tears
Description
Mr Donatas Chlebinskas gives his expert insights and discusses the superficial peroneal retinaculum and its relationship to peroneal tendon injuries. He highlights how tears or certain movements can lead to subluxation of the peroneal tendons over the lateral malleolus, resulting in friction and tears in the peroneus brevis tendon. Mr Chlebinskas notes that injuries to the superficial peroneal retinaculum are present in up to 90% of peroneal subluxations, with tears of the peroneus brevis observed in 60% to 75% of such cases. The audio emphasizes the need for surgical repair of the peroneus brevis to also include inspection and repair of the superficial peroneal retinaculum to avoid recurrence of the injury.
