Updates In Research With Rapid 5’s (ATOCP)

Description

In this informative session, Becky Kearney opens with a warm welcome to attendees and introduces herself as a research lead at Bristol University for ATOCP. She announces her handover of responsibilities to Hayley, the new co-chair for the session, and shares her excitement at the developments within ATOCP's research initiatives. Throughout the presentation, various research projects and studies related to musculoskeletal health and rehabilitation are discussed, highlighting efforts to improve patient outcomes post-trauma and surgery.

Presenters include Sunny Deo, who discusses the Oxford Participation Activity questionnaire (OxPAC) designed to assess patient rehabilitation quality in knee replacement cohorts, revealing the importance of capturing patient perspectives on recovery. The following speaker, Katrina Mitchell, along with Sarah Haseldine, presents a toolkit developed to prepare physiotherapy students for clinical placements, noting its positive impact on student anxiety and experience.

A notable moment arises when Toby Smith introduces the results from a randomized controlled trial (PEP-TALK), providing insights into a behavior change intervention for improving post-surgery physical activity. Despite the experiment's failure to show significant differences between usual care and the PEP-TALK intervention, Toby emphasizes the ongoing challenges related to physical activity promotion in elderly populations.

The culmination of discussions reveals a strong emphasis on the importance of quality improvement initiatives within physiotherapy, as demonstrated by Stephanie O'Neill's project that aimed to enhance staff satisfaction with virtual consultations in a post-pandemic context. This transition to virtual care presents both challenges and insightful opportunities to improve patient and staff experiences within healthcare frameworks.

Finally, awards are presented for outstanding contributions, celebrating individual achievements within the community. The session ends with an invitation for networking and collaboration, emphasizing the supportive culture of the ATOCP and its commitment to advancing physiotherapy practices.
