Mr Fergal Monsell

Biography

His paediatric practice is broad based with a special interest in the management of patients with limb deformity. He has some experience in surgical and prosthetic management of this patient group and leads a multi-disciplinary team. He is also involved in all aspects of paediatric trauma and the treatment of children with cerebral palsy using a spectrum of contemporary techniques. Mr Monsell has an active research portfolio and his group is currently investigating the skeletal consequences of septicaemia, defining patterns of normal limb growth and developing reconstruction techniques for complex deformity. He is involved in education at all levels and is Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol and Director of the Avon Centre for Musculoskeletal Education. Fergal's MSc thesis was for work that quantified the kinematics of the knee following ACL injury and reconstruction and his PhD thesis evaluated on the effect of cytotoxic chemotherapy on regenerate bone. In 2000, he was an ABC travelling fellow, is the immediate Past President of the Limb Reconstruction Society and a Member of the Politburo of the Society for Children's Orthopaedic Surgery, as well as a member of the editorial board of the Bone and Joint Journal and specialty editor for paediatrics.
