Mr James Archer, Specialty Registrar in Trauma and Orthopaedics, has been awarded a place on the BOA (British Orthopaedic Association) Future Leaders Programme.
The programme is for senior Trauma and Orthopaedics trainees and is designed to create an alumni of leaders with the capabilities to improve the delivery of clinical care and to influence positive change within the profession. James will deliver a significant improvement project at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) as part of the programme.
James comments: "I’m thrilled to be given this opportunity to develop my leadership skills while working on a continuous improvement project at the Trust.
“The project I’m looking at is a civility saves lives campaign, directly engaging the consultant and medical body. There’s lots of proven benefits on how teams that work better together directly improves patient care and outcomes. Through this programme we’ll be exploring how to achieve cohesive teamwork and be a better team and applying this as part of our improvement projects. We do this well at ROH, but I’m interested in finding that extra 1%, how we can go from good to outstanding.”
In addition to his clinical work, James is heavily involved in training. He can often be found teaching at the ROH Knowledge Hub and has previously held the role of Academic Officer with the Birmingham Orthopaedic Trainees Association.
James’ position on the programme has been partly funded by the Royal Orthopaedic Charity, which allocates a portion of funds for additional staff training in the latest techniques, treatment and best practice through its Invest in the Best appeal.
