I have been actively involved in the health care industry for more than 30 years as an Orthopaedic Surgeon and lecturer. I am in a unique position of having been forced to stop practice as an active surgeon for medical reasons and having been President of the South African Orthopaedic Association two years ago. In this role I negotiated with and advised Medical Aids and orthopaedic companies in professional education, conferences and instructional courses as faculty and negotiating with funders on behalf of members of the SAOA in fee negotiation, alternate reimbursement models, protection of the rights of surgeons and guiding the profession through COVID.
