BSCOS Consensus Guidelines for the Management of CTEV in Children up to Walking Age

Description

The presentation led by Sally Tennant at the BOA focuses on the findings from the BSCOS Clubfoot Consensus Statement Group, with an urgency to reach adult surgeons still treating clubfoot. The discussion includes an explanation of the Delphi Process utilized to develop the consensus statements, highlighting its history and application in the medical field. The expert group involved consists predominantly of consultant children's orthopedic surgeons who engaged in multiple online meetings to formulate 61 statements across key topics in clubfoot treatment, which were then narrowed down through structured surveys and consensus building.

The presentation reflects on the criteria for the statements—determining critical views from those in the field while emphasizing the necessity for practitioners to undergo proper training in the Ponseti method. Key points discussed include the significance of early treatment, referral processes, and the importance of a network for support in different clinical settings. It aims to establish criteria that ensure trained personnel oversee clubfoot treatment clinics to enhance patient outcomes and professional practice in this specialized area.

Throughout the session, attendees engage in dialogue, raising questions about the definitions of trained practitioners and the implementation of recommendations, illustrating the collective concern for maintaining high standards in clinical practice regarding clubfoot treatment.
