Changes in Bone Density Below The Cementless Unicompartmental Knee Replacement Tibial Component Are Not Related To Patient-Reported Outcomes

Description

This presentation by Azmi Rahman explores findings from a PhD study focusing on remodeling around the keel of the Oxford cementless unicompartmental knee replacement. The research aimed to evaluate radiographic density changes around the tibial component's keel and investigate any impact on patient-reported outcomes (PROMs). A total of 115 patients were assessed over five years, with radiographic analyses showing variations in bone density below and beside the keel. The study highlighted a significant increase in bone density under the keel after five years and a decrease beside it, suggesting uneven load distribution. Despite some observations of remodeling, there was no statistically significant relationship found between these changes and patient outcomes. The study concluded that remodeling doesn’t indicate clinical concern, especially since loosening of the implant is rare beyond five years.
