Clinically Practical 3D Knee Kinematics Measurement - An Approach To Get There Soon
Description
In this presentation, Professor Scott Banks shares his journey as a prominent figure in measuring joint kinematics through fluoroscopy over the past 35 years. He discusses his transition from academia to entrepreneurship after a significant life event, with a mission to bring kinematic measurements into clinical practice. Scott details the challenges faced in implementing kinematic measurement technologies in clinics, including the need for high-quality image acquisition and appropriate modeling of joints or implants. He introduces a new approach called manual tomography, which captures panoramic shots for 3D reconstructions while ensuring better integration into clinical workflows. The presentation highlights a new company, Orthopedic Driven Imaging (ODI), which collaborates with hardware and software partners to provide clinically practical solutions for joint kinematics evaluations. Scott outlines the advantages of the upgraded imaging systems set to be deployed in clinical settings and shares early results from a knee kinematics study demonstrating time efficiency and manageable x-ray exposure, cementing the importance and practicality of these innovations in orthopedic practice.
