Hip Arthroscopy Utilization and Re-operation Rates in Ontario: A Population-Based Analysis Comparing Different Aged Cohorts
Description
This presentation by Ryan Degen discusses a population-based analysis of hip-arthroscopy utilization and reoperation rates in Ontario, Canada. The study focuses on two age cohorts—those aged 18 to 39 and those aged 40 to 60—highlighting the negative prognostic impact of older age and osteoarthritis on surgical outcomes. After analyzing administrative data from 2006 to 2016, the findings reveal significant differences in reoperation rates between the two groups: only 3.2% of younger patients required revision surgery at two years, compared to 10.8% of older patients, which increased to 22% by five years. The results indicate that increasing age and the presence of osteoarthritis correlate with higher rates of secondary surgery, providing valuable data to inform surgical decision-making and patient consent.
