Long-term Clinical Outcomes of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction with and without Anterolateral Ligament Reconstruction: A Matched-pair Analysis
Description
This presentation by Adnan Saithna discusses a matched-pair analysis examining the long-term clinical outcomes of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with and without anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstruction. Saithna acknowledges his co-authors, notably senior author Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet, and mentions that his previous research on this topic received the AANA award in 2017. The study analyzes the significance of combined reconstructions in reducing graft rupture rates compared to isolated ACL reconstructions. The findings indicate that patients who underwent combined ACL and ALL reconstruction experienced significantly better graft survivorship, lower reoperation rates, and no increase in complications compared to those undergoing isolated ACL reconstruction. Saithna highlights that patients with isolated ACL reconstruction face a more than five-fold increased risk of revision surgery. The presentation culminates in a call for questions from the audience.
