Survivorship of the Dual Mobility Construct in Elective Primary Total Hip Replacement - A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Including Registry Data

Description

In this presentation, Jonathan Evans, a consultant from Exeter and part of the Lot 2 contract analysis team, discusses a research project primarily conducted by two MSK students. He highlights the significance of using freely available PNR data, allowing for research without the extensive application processes typically required for accessing such data. Focusing on dual mobility hip replacement, which is designed to reduce dislocation risk, he presents findings that indicate whether this procedure meets the NICE standard of a 5% revision rate or fewer over ten years. After analyzing case series and registry reports, the study found a survival rate of 96.26%, surpassing the required threshold. However, Evans points out limitations such as publication bias, the unknown characteristics of patients involved, and the age of the results. He concludes by discussing the expected increase in dual mobility cases being documented in future research due to the new classification of components, urging continuous monitoring of the National Joint Registry for evolving insights.
